The Savannah College of Art and Design has named musician, fashion designer, and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams as the 2025 recipient of the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award, a recognition that celebrates his influence in music, fashion, and culture. It is a tremendous achievement as the award has previously recognized Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, and Aurora James.

Pharrell Williams
Pharrell Williams, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear, will be celebrated on October 14 at SCADshow in Atlanta, which coincides with the opening of “André Leon Talley: Style Is Forever”, an exhibit at the Savannah College of Art and Design FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, launching October 15. The ceremony will include remarks by Savannah College of Art and Design President Paula Wallace and iconic fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, followed by a conversation with Pharrell Williams, artist The-Dream, and Stephanie Sutton.
Savannah College of Art and Design president and founder Paula Wallace praised Williams, stating, “Pharrell personifies joy and genius. With this honour, Savannah College of Art and Design recognizes a generational talent and emboldens SCAD Bees to design their worlds with the very same wondrous élan that distinguishes the lives of André and Pharrell, legends both.”
A thirteen-time Grammy winner, Williams also leads wellness brand ‘Humanrace’ and the non-profits ‘Yellow’ and ‘Black Ambition’. “It is a profound honor to receive the André Leon Talley Award,” he said. “André showed us that creativity has no boundaries—it moves between art, fashion, and culture as a force that unites us.”
Pharrell Willams’ legacy
Pharrell Williams (born April 5, 1973, in Virginia Beach, Virginia) is widely recognised as one of the most influential figures in pop culture. From an early age, he showed musical precocity—studying drums in school and forming a musical alliance with Chad Hugo during summer camp at the age of 12—which would later evolve into the production powerhouse duo The Neptunes. In the 1990s and early 2000s, Williams and Hugo did chart-topping productions for artists such as Britney Spears, Jay-Z, Nelly, Busta Rhymes, and many more.
In 1999, Pharrell also co-founded the rock/hip-hop band N.E.R.D. with Hugo and Shay Haley, taking on lead vocals and melding genres in a way that challenged categorisation. As a solo artist, his debut solo album, ‘In My Mind’, came out in 2006, and in 2014 he released ‘G I R L’, whose lead single ‘Happy’ became a rage—topping charts in more than 20 countries and earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Over his career, Williams has won 13 Grammy Awards and received two Academy Award nominations.
Under his umbrella creative enterprise ‘I Am Other’ (founded in 2012), he expanded into fashion, media, and cultural initiatives, launching the streetwear labels ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ and ‘Ice Cream’ (in collaboration with Nigo) and partnering with major brands like Adidas. In 2023, he stepped into luxury fashion as the first Black American artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear division. Under his leadership, Pharrell Williams brought a fresh, innovative approach to luxury fashion, creating inclusive and culturally rich designs that appealed to a diverse audience while maintaining the brand’s codes.
Pharrell has also used his influence for advocacy and philanthropic ventures. He has been vocal about artists’ rights and ownership in the music industry, pushing for creators to retain control over their masters. He also supports arts and education through initiatives like From One Hand To Another (FOHTA), and in 2021 launched Yellowhab, a tuition-free private micro-school for underserved children. In late 2024, he was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for artistic education and entrepreneurship, bringing his creative mission into global cultural diplomacy.
Today, Pharrell Williams stands as a rare polymath—musician, producer, fashion designer, entrepreneur, and cultural curator—whose milestones influence how art, fashion, commerce, and identity intersect on a global stage.
