Born on September 12, 1997, in Spokane, Washington, Sydney Sweeney grew up in Idaho, with maths as her favourite subject. Her mother is a former criminal defence lawyer and her father is part of the hospitality industry. Developing a passion for acting at a young age and with no drama lessons at Saint Georges School, Sweeney begged her parents to let her audition for an indie film that was being shot in her hometown. She then put together a five-year business-plan presentation of her career and by the age of thirteen, she moved to LA with her family to pursue the dream.
Sweeney first pursued theatre, participating in local productions before securing her first role in television. She debuted on television in 2009 with a small part in an episode of Heroes. She played supporting roles in television shows such as 90210, Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy and Pretty Little Liars. In 2018, she starred as Emaline Addario in Everything Sucks! and then appeared in Sharp Objects. She had a recurring role in the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
However, it was her breakout role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria (2019) that brought her global recognition. The HBO series, known for its raw portrayal of adolescence, highlighted Sweeney’s ability to portray complex characters. Following this, Sweeney took on roles in The Handmaid’s Tale and The White Lotus, which led to her meteoric rise. In 2020, she launched her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, focusing on adapting women-led stories. Currently, she is working on her company’s debut series, The Player’s Table, based on Jessica Goodman’s novel They Wish They Were Us.
Beyond her television career and production, Sydney Sweeney diversified into feature films and starred in the critically acclaimed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), directed by Quentin Tarantino, where she played the role of a Manson Family member. This opened doors for future movie opportunities including Night Teeth (2021) and The Voyeurs (2021). Sweeney’s ability to balance both television and film has made her a rising star in the industry.
In 2023, Sydney Sweeney delivered a standout performance as U.S. Air Force veteran Reality Winner in Tina Satter’s Reality, which premiered at the 73rd Berlin Film Festival. Sweeney also starred in the crime thriller Americana, which premiered at the South by Southwest Festival in March 2023 and then appeared in the video for the Rolling Stones’ 2023 single “Angry” from their album Hackney Diamonds. She also starred in and executive produced Anyone but You, which became a sleeper hit in December 2023.
In 2024, Sweeney bagged a supporting role in the superhero film Madame Web from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and then hosted Saturday Night Live. That year, Sweeney starred in Immaculate, a psychological horror film she also produced. Later, she starred in Ron Howard’s Eden and then alongside Julianne Moore in Echo Valley. Sweeney also produced and starred in Christy, a biopic about boxer Christy Martin, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Looking ahead, Sydney Sweeney is set to co-star in The Housemaid and also play Kim Novak in Scandalous in early 2026.
Sweeney has also carved a niche in the fashion industry. In 2021, she inked collaborations with several fashion brands, including Valentino, Miu Miu and American Eagle, and regularly attends high-profile events such as the Met Gala and Paris Fashion Week. Her collaboration with Miu Miu has produced memorable red carpet looks, including a custom pink crystal-embroidered gown at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, styled by Molly Dickson.

Per BoF: “Sweeney has proven to be a lightning rod for brand marketing in recent months. In May, she was the star of another viral campaign for men’s soap brand Dr. Squatch, with which she collaborated on a new product named “Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss.” Industry insiders said the stunt helped Dr. Squatch get acquired by Unilever for $1.5 billion in the following month.”
In January 2023, Sweeney became a brand ambassador for Armani Beauty and Laneige. Her other advertising deals include partnerships with Samsung, Ford, Baskin-Robbins, Cotton On and Guess. In May 2025, she partnered with personal care brand Dr. Squatch to launch a limited-edition soap line containing her bathwater. In July 2025, Sweeney appeared in an advertising campaign for American Eagle Outfitters named “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans”.
Sydney’s personal milestones have been closely tied to her professional journey. She has publicly spoken about her experiences growing up in a small town, often highlighting how her family’s support played a pivotal role in her success. Despite her fame, Sweeney has managed to maintain a grounded and humble public image, gaining respect for her authenticity and work ethic. Her personal life, though kept private, has sparked significant media interest. She has been vocal about the pressures of fame, speaking on the challenges of maintaining a balanced life while managing a successful career in the spotlight.
Sweeney started dating businessman Jonathan Davino in 2018, and they got engaged in 2022. The couple produced films together (including Anyone But You and Immaculate). However, the couple separated in 2025. Sweeney is an automobile enthusiast and restored a 1969 Ford Bronco and a 1965 Ford Mustang, and also owns a 1956 Ford F100 with original patina, gifted by her grandfather. As part of her partnership with Ford, Sweeney designed a custom 2024 Mustang.
Sydney Sweeney’s career has been marked by awards, particularly for her work in Euphoria. Her portrayal of Cassie Howard earned her multiple award nominations, including Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Her work on The White Lotus also received widespread acclaim, cementing her reputation as a leading actress. In 2021, she was named one of Variety’s “Power of Young Hollywood” honorees.
