History

The United States Fashion Industry Association is dedicated to fashion made possible by global trade. Founded in 1989, USFIA works to eliminate tariff and non-tariff barriers that impede the fashion industry’s ability to trade freely and create jobs in the United States. Headquartered in Washington, the association represents fashion brands, retailers, importers and wholesalers based in the United States and doing business worldwide. Keeping this in mind, it is committed to providing members with the latest trade intelligence, resources, and solutions to manage the business of fashion and advocates removing barriers that impede the fashion industry’s ability to trade freely.

The United States Fashion Industry Association is the voice of the fashion industry in front of the U.S. government as well as international governments and stakeholders.  It also plays a leading role in trade policy advocacy, in addition to offering insights on customs issues, sustainability, and smart sourcing. This year, it will continue to make the case for the importance of free and fair trade and global supply chains, share industry best practices, and collaborate and learn from each other. With constant, two-way communication, the association’s team and counsel serve as the eyes and ears of our members in Washington and around the world, enabling them to stay ahead of regulatory challenges.

As per the official website, ‘Last year, USFIA continued to hold virtual member seminars and events, in addition to the crucial webinars… One accomplishment was to bring more policymakers to USFIA virtual events. We learned more about the outlook on key issues from forced labor to the supply chain. One of the highlights of the year was the Classification Workshop series, featuring the CBP National Import Specialists as well as our Customs Broker Partner GEODIS USA.’

The association provides it members with real-time research and data on business of fashion. Every year, the United States Fashion Industry Association publishes Sourcing Trends and Outlook, covering trade data and trends and providing a peek into the “crystal ball” at the future of textile, apparel, fashion sourcing and trade policy. Equally important is the events the association hosts for its members including the upcoming “Fashion Assessment and Impact Reduction Workshop”, “Apparel Classification Workshop: Meet the National Import Specialists” and “USFIA Fashion Forward 2023: San Francisco”.
