Niki Mahajan is a fashion designer from New Delhi, India, who “loves ancient crafts with a modern twist”. She is the founder and creative director of fashion label Niki Mahajan. She is recognized for her colorful, clean-cut silhouettes and complex handwork, and has 110,000 followers on Instagram.
She studied English Literature at Lady Shriram College. She came up with her own type of fabric called “reeds”, made by splitting grass and treating it with natural elements. In 2013, she won the Yuv Ratan award of excellence for the production of unique fabrics.
She has made a mark in the fashion circuit with her unique sense of designing and use of textiles and has been working in the fashion industry for the past two decades, upholding the works of talented artisan from the states of Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Assam and the other remote areas of the country. Working along with people who have received national acclaim from their own states, Niki Mahajan has been a lucky person to learn the art of making fabrics from the grass-root level.
Niki Mahajan, with her exclusive line of garments, has managed to entice people all around the country. She retails her outfits, under the label ‘Maska’, from stores in Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin at Folio, Oorja at Hyderabad, Kali at Kolkata, Casa at Pune, L’affaire, Heritage and her own studio at Vasant Vihar, New Delhi and the Designer Studio, Mumbai. Expertise in trousseau, occasion-wear and prêt line, she excels in making garments with a difference. She combines innovative surface treatments with surprising colourways, making it an unusual product.
Her sister is Shingini Mukherjee. She and her husband had a baby in February 2019. She is associated with Shaina NC, Seema Khan and Payal Khandwala – also prominent fashion designers from Mumbai.
