Madrid Fashion Week

Fashion week taking place twice annually in Madrid, Spain

Summary

Madrid Fashion Week, also known as Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, or until 2008 Pasarela Cibeles, is the main venue to promote fashion and designers in Spain. It is based in Madrid, and like other fashion weeks, takes place two times a year.

Madrid Fashion Week attracts not only notable attendees from Spain such as the Duchess of Alba, or the socialite Carmen Lomana but also international football stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Kaka, or models like Irina Shayk.

The Spanish capital was chosed by many models as a preferable place to work in between the New York and Milan fashion weeks. The list of designers at MBFWM is long and includes, for instance: Davidelfin, Juan Duyos, Adolfo Dominguez, Andres Sarda, Aristocrazy, TCN, Juanjo Oliva.

Interesting facts

Forbes magazine called some thirteen brands present at the 2019 summer Madrid Fashion Week as “the brands to watch”. Amongst them were two young brands: David Catalan, a Portuguese menswear and womenswear designer and D the brand, a sustainable Spanish brand, started by two women.

Both brands seem to embrance the idea that sustainable materials that will last are in. All the fabrics used by D the brand are Oeko-tex Standard 100 and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. What is more, they produce less units of clothes than other designers, in order to conform with the zero waste ideology.
