Alexa Chung, born 5 November 1983, is a British writer, television presenter, model, and fashion designer. She has authored the books It (2013) and Über Style (2014), and launched her fashion brand in May 2017.

History

Early years

Alexa Chung grew up in Privett, Hampshire, England with her English mother, housewife and her Chinese father, graphic designer. She is the youngest of her four siblings. He has two brothers and one sister. He attended Perins Community College. Later, in sixth grade, she moved to Peter Symonds College in Winchester (2000-2002). She was accepted by King’s College in London to study English and by Chelsea College of Art and Design to do an art course, before being recruited by a modelling agency.

Modelling

At age 14, Alexa attended The Clothes Show, where an Elite Model Management talent scout first approached her to offer modelling for the agency. She never signed with Elite, but the Storm Model Management agency noticed her at the Reading Festival, two years later, and she finally signed a contract with them.

He modelled for magazines like Elle Girl and CosmoGIRL! and appeared in ads for products such as Fanta, Sony Ericsson, Sunsilk and Tampax. She also modelled for Urban Outfitters. What is more, she participated in music videos for artists such as The Streets, Westlife, Delta Goodrem, Reuben and Holly Valance and was part of the cast of a scripted reality show called Shoot Me of the Fashion TV channel in 2005.

After four years, Chung found that modelling had disappointed her and set it aside with the intention of starting an art foundation or a journalism course. Modelling had managed to have “distorted her body image”.

After becoming a famous television personality, Chung has occasionally returned to the catwalks. In 2008, she was the fashion label face of Australia Antipodium and Oxfam. In September 2008, she walked for Vivienne Westwood Red Label 2009 at London Fashion Week. In early 2009, she became the face of New Look. She announced that she was the first celebrity to be the face of Lacoste in June 2010, appearing both in television and print advertising for its fragrance “Joy of Pink”. Chung worked as a guest editor for Tommy Hilfiger in their fall collection and modelled their clothes.

She launched his own clothing brand called Alexachung in May 2017.

TV career

In April 2006, whilst working as a model, she was offered the work of co-hosting Popworld on Channel 4, a television show known for its irreverent and uncomfortable style of conducting interviews. Later, she was a guest host for Big Brother’s Big Mouth and appeared as a panellist for the 8 out of 10 Cats program. She conducted several T4 Movie Specials, 4Music Specials, T4 Holiday Mornings, in addition to the T4 channel coverage of several music festivals.

In January 2008, she became one of the four anchor presenters on the T4 channel, leading Vanity Lair, a television program investigating the concept of “beauty.” She was the main host of Frock Me, a fashion and music program with designer Henry Holland. She was also the host the Diesel U Music Awards and the Elle Style Awards. In 2009, she received the Elle”Best TV presenter” award.

Chung left Channel 4 and her country in April 2009 to pursue a career in the United States. She presented It’s On with Alexa Chung for MTV.

The program contained chats with elebrities, live music and interaction with viewers. It was cancelled in December 2009. She returned to British TV screens in April 2010 with the second series of Frock Me.

Since September 2015, she has been the host of Vogue UK documentaries.

Columnist

Chung wrote a monthly column for the British women’s magazine Company from October 2007 to June 2008.

She also wrote a weekly column for The Independent newspaper, ‘Girl About Town’, which was published from November 2008 to June 2009, every Wednesday and then another called “New York Doll.” In June 2009, she became the editor of the British Vogue. She interviewed Karl Lagerfeld and Christopher Kane for the publication and wrote a cover story about Kate Upton.

Best dressed List

In 2007, Chung caught the attention of the fashion press for her distinctive and peculiar style. She frequently appears on the best-dressed lists, in fashion magazines and in the front rows of fashion shows.

Personal life

Chung lived with fashion photographer David Titlow, twenty years older than her, from 2003 to 2006. Then she was in a relationship with Arctic Monkeys vocalist Alex Turner.  In  2013 during an interview, she said that Turner will always be her “best friend”.

From May 2015 to July 2017, she was seen with a Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård. Since the beginning of 2019, she has been in a relationship with the heir of a chocolate brand, Orson Fry, 10 years younger than her.
