Vestiaire Collective, a leading global platform for pre-owned luxury fashion, has appointed Bernard Osta as its new Chief Executive Officer. Osta succeeds Maximilian Bittner, who led the company through its expansion into new markets and the development of its technology-driven platform.

Bernard Osta
Bernard Osta’s journey with Vestiaire Collective began in May 2021 when he joined as Chief Strategy Officer and then continued in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer from September 2023. Before joining Vestiaire, Osta spent time advising businesses strategically as an investment banker for 15 years at Lazard (2006 to 2011) and Goldman Sachs (2011 to 2021) in New York and Paris. He also serves as independent member of the supervisory board of media and entertainment group Vivendi.
“Vestiaire Collective has secured a unique position as the ultimate trusted marketplace in the highly attractive pre-loved luxury fashion industry. Together, we will continue to transform fashion giving a second life to the most desirable pieces, at the service of a more sustainable model. This is a particularly exciting moment for the company. With the rise of AI, we have an extraordinary opportunity to accelerate on our product roadmap, deliver the most engaging customer experience and gain market share, confirms Osta.
Vestiaire, a certified B Corp., features a catalog of over 5 million items and is active in 70 countries. Under Osta’s leadership, the company will focus on driving innovation at the intersection of luxury, technology, and sustainability and rolling out an AI-powered product strategy to enhance customer experience. Vestiaire Collective will also focus on expanding brand awareness and reach through innovative marketing in key regions such as Europe, the US, and Asia-Pacific. These capabilities will reinforce its position as a trusted marketplace for pre-owned luxury goods.
A statement from Vestiaire’s board reads: “We want to thank Maximilian Bittner for his dedication and the significant role he has played in the development of the company since he joined in late 2018. We wish him every success in his future professional projects. Looking forward, we are very happy to open a new chapter under the leadership of Bernard. We have worked very closely with him since he joined Vestiaire Collective. His intimate knowledge of the company, international experience and great leadership will be invaluable assets for Vestiaire Collective in its next phase of growth.”

Vestiaire Collective

Vestiaire Collective, founded in 2009 as “Vestiaire de Copines” by Fanny Moizant, Sophie Hersan, Sébastien Fabre, Alexandre Cognard, Henrique Fernandes, and Christian Jorge, began with 3,000 pre-owned fashion items sourced from friends and family. Rebranded in 2012, the company expanded internationally, starting in the UK and then the US, growing to operate in over 70 countries worldwide.
Under the leadership of Global CEO Maximilian Bittner, who joined in 2019, Vestiaire Collective shifted its focus towards promoting circularity and increasing its US market presence. Bittner, a tech entrepreneur known for founding Lazada Group, brought a wealth of experience, having previously led the company through rapid growth before its acquisition by Alibaba.
In recent years, Vestiaire Collective has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability. In 2020, it earned the distinction of being the 11th French Unicorn and became a Certified B Corporation in 2021. In line with its mission to tackle textile waste, the company launched a three-year plan in 2022 to ban 63 fast fashion brands, advocating for more conscious consumption.
The company’s growth continued in 2021 with significant funding rounds, raising €356 million in total, led by industry giants such as Kering, SoftBank, and Tiger Global Management. By November 2023, its valuation reached €1.1 billion. Fanny Moizant and Sophie Hersan were also recognised with the “National Order of Merit” by the French Ministry of the Economy in December 2023 for their leadership in sustainable fashion.
Vestiare’s resale platform creates potential benefits to citizens, business and the environment including shifting from fast fashion to trading up to a mindset of fewer, but better quality, second hand items; lower price points make luxury brand items accessible to a larger customer base; 48% of second hand shoppers admit purchasing a brand that was new to them and nearly all would consider buying these brands again; and by 2027, resale apparel is expected to make up 11% of an average citizen’s wardrobe.
