That distinction has shaped Aaron Keay Vancouver’s career. “I’ve always been interested in what sticks,” Keay says. “Lots of things get attention. Far fewer become part of someone’s routine.”
How Competitive Sports Shaped Aaron Keay’s Career
Keay grew up in North Delta, a suburb of Vancouver, where sports played a major role in his life.
He represented British Columbia in both basketball and soccer before focusing on soccer full-time. That path eventually led him to represent Canada internationally, play professionally in Europe, and compete for the Vancouver 86ers and Vancouver Whitecaps.
At the same time, he pursued his education at the University of British Columbia, graduating with degrees in Business and Human Kinetics. In 1997, he was named CIAU Student-Athlete of the Year.
One memory still stands out.
“I remember training in the rain before sunrise and then going straight to class,” he says. “Nobody cared how tired you were. You still had to perform.”
Those years taught him lessons that would later influence how he approached business. Preparation mattered. Consistency mattered. Teamwork mattered.
Most importantly, success was built through repetition.
What Aaron Keay Learned From Fitness and Performance
After soccer, Keay entered the fitness industry as a personal trainer.
The experience gave him a close look at human behavior.
“People always asked about motivation,” he says. “What I noticed was that motivation came and went. Habits stayed.”
He competed in marathons, Half Ironmans, full Ironmans, and adventure races. He also spent time competing in poker tournaments, reaching a Top 50 global ranking in 2008.
Each experience reinforced the same lesson.

Keay eventually moved into corporate finance and capital markets.
Over time, he became involved in transactions totaling more than $5 billion in value through capital raises, mergers, acquisitions, and public listings.
One of his earliest high-profile business experiences came through OrganiGram, which became one of the first publicly listed cannabis companies and later reached a valuation of roughly $3 billion.
“It wasn’t about predicting the future,” he says. “It was about paying attention to consumer behavior and understanding where things were heading.”
That experience led him toward broader opportunities in consumer products, wellness, and technology.
Rather than focusing on sectors alone, he began focusing on habits.

Today, much of Keay’s work centers on identifying brands that become part of everyday life.
Through Klutch Financial and RX3 Growth Partners, he has been involved with companies such as Therabody and Truvani.

“I’ve always liked products that solve recurring problems,” he says. “If someone uses something every week, that tells you a lot.”
He believes consumer behavior often provides better insights than headlines.
One example comes from observing athletes and fitness enthusiasts using recovery tools.
“I started seeing people carry them everywhere,” he says. “Gym bags. Travel bags. Locker rooms. Nobody had to tell them to use them. It became part of the routine.”
That pattern remains one of the strongest signals he looks for today.
The Growing Role of Wellness and Consumer Health
Keay also serves as an advisor to Cali Water, a functional beverage company supported by well-known figures including Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens, Gerard Butler, and Glenn Powell.
While celebrity involvement creates visibility, he believes long-term success depends on something much simpler.
“The product has to stand on its own,” he says. “Attention gets people interested. Consistency keeps them around.”
That perspective reflects broader trends across consumer health.
People are looking for products that support recovery, nutrition, hydration, and performance in practical ways.
The strongest brands often become habits rather than purchases.
Building Kommunity Fitness for the Next Stage of Growth
Keay’s most active operating role today is Kommunity Fitness.
Founded in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighborhood, the company was built around structured workouts, community, and consistency.
“We weren’t trying to create another gym,” he says. “We wanted to create a place people would actually return to.”
The company is now expanding into the United States through a franchising model.
To support that growth, Kommunity Fitness brought in experienced executive leadership, including COO Mike Gray.
For Keay, the focus remains the same.
“If something only works because the founder is standing there every day, it isn’t really scalable.”

When looking at Keay’s career, the industries tell only part of the story.
