Bengaluru-based fashion designer Manoviraj Khosla retailed under his eponymous label since 1990 while he was still working as a costume designer in Indian films. The fashion brand plays with an assortment of fabrics and materials- but what sets The Manoviraj Khosla brand apart from any other is its constant experimentation with fabrics like cotton, organza, silk, linen, leather, suede, wools and velvet, and enhancing them with textures and treatments to produce exceptional, original collections Per Pernia’s Pop-Up: “Manoviraj Khosla was majorly influenced by Punk Revolution like green hair, jewelry, rat tails, and more. He soon opened his studio in Bangalore and describes his style to be very funky, which can be easily seen in his labels.”

In 1995, Khosla launched his ‘Kingfisher Line’ in association with the UB Group. He tells The Telegraph: “A big professional turning point for me was launching my second label — the Kingfisher Line in conjunction with the UB Group in 1995. Launching a garment line for a corporate was an unusual experience for me as a designer. It was a new concept and something hardly any other designers were doing then. This tie-up has made work more challenging and exciting for me.”

Khosla’s style draws inspiration from both Indian and Western aesthetics and focuses on experimenting with different cuts and fabrics. In contrast to luxury Indian couture labels, Khosla ensures affordability of the pieces produced under his label. Per Pernia’s Pop-Up: “He loves to use a lot of colors and mixing-matching appearances and his work is always a standout among others. Manoviraj likes to blend streetwear into formal looks, as more people are choosing comfort in fashion, and streetwear is the answer. He finds people looking brilliant and fashionable even in tracks T-shirts and a pair of sneakers. The designer believes that the idea of modern design is to make one look trendy and cool and that’s all that matters.”

Apart from taking individual luxury pret and couture orders the brand also takes pride in designing uniforms for clients ranging from corporate houses and hotels to airlines and private yachts.

Manoviraj Khosla designs and retails haute couture and luxury pret for both men and women. One of the most anticipated menswear shows at India Fashion Week, Manoviraj Khosla SS20 stirred enthusiasm among editors, buyers and guests.

Per Explosive Fashion: ‘Looking down the long barrel of textile craft, Manoviraj put the values of craft and individual choice into luxury fashion, by combining kantha embroideries with animal print, metallic foil, denim and leather. His commitment to making one-of-a-kind pieces is unwavering; in particular, the white and black bomber with kantha work, worn over white pants with zipper detailing… Or the black asymmetrical kurta with zipper detailing worn with a black jacket and animal print pants.’

Another hit showing was at Bengal Fashion Week. Per Economic Times: ‘”These are very classy with predominantly black and grey shades with hint of silver. These are very Zen colours” he later told the media after his show at KF Ultra Bengal Fashion Week 2. Khosla’s oeuvre was new fabrics bathed in bright colours – from orange to gold in single drapes in the show themed “Life”.’
