As Marist’s fifth President, Kevin Weinman is devoted to advancing access, equity, and excellence in higher education and making a Marist education accessible to talented students from around the world.
President Weinman has great passion for the powerful combination of a liberal arts education and pre-professional training that is the hallmark of a Marist education. He believes deeply in combining these studies and is a product of this approach himself. His academic and professional careers combine scholarship in the history of urban planning and public policy with extensive financial and administrative leadership in the private and public sectors. And, he values communication and personal connections, engages with the Marist community frequently, and is a highly visible presence on campus.
“I spent the first half of my career in the corporate world, first in public accounting, then in finance and marketing roles for companies like Hewlett-Packard and Western Union. All the while, I was drawn back to the classroom for my real love, history. While working full-time, I pursued a master’s degree in history and taught nights and weekends. I was so excited to get through each workday so I could get to the classroom. I’d prepare to teach each day by retreating to my car at lunch. After one particularly bad day at work, I thought to myself: maybe I can “do finance work” for a college? If there was a moment where a career path in higher ed became a reality, that was it.
I was lucky enough to get a job directing financial planning and budgeting at Dartmouth and then as CFO at Amherst, leaning on my formal training in finance, while also continuing my studies in the classroom as a PhD student at the University of New Hampshire. After years of living two professional lives, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to bring it all together here at Marist, as I find elements of everything in my career to be useful at different times in this role. It’s why I advise students to find something(s) they love to learn, say yes to every opportunity that comes their way and trust that their careers will evolve in ways that they will be ready for success,” says President Weinman on the official website of Marist.
Hoping to enhance his accessibility to Marist University students and foster a stronger sense of community on campus, President Kevin C. Weinman plans to relocate his residence on campus in the fall of 2025. Weinman and his wife, Beth, have already been recognized for their active involvement in campus life. The move to Sammon House will allow them to deepen their connections with students, faculty and staff, as they become members of the community—from walking their family dog Cody around campus and sharing meals in the dining hall with students to hosting informal discussions, events and celebrations in an environment designed for meaningful interaction.
Located on a beautiful campus along the banks of the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York, and at its Florence, Italy campus, Marist offers one of the most comprehensive educational programs of any institution its size. More than 5,000 undergraduate students and 1,400 adult and graduate students enroll annually in the college’s 47 undergraduate majors and numerous in-person and online graduate programs, including M.B.A., M.P.A., M.S., M.A., Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant. It is also home to a host of innovative partnerships preparing students to make a positive impact in the world.
